Standard Chartered Nepal - Base Rate

Standard Chartered Nepal - Base Rate
(Explainer Video )

I had the pleasure to Creative Direct this explainer video for Standard Chartered Nepal. It was a fun, challenging project. Check out the case-study below.

The Brief
Standard Chartered Nepal is a banking and financial services company in Nepal and a subsidiary of Standard Chartered PLC. The client wanted its memebers to know that they provided the best loans due to lower base rate, in the subtle manner. What does that mean ? The first step in any video like this is doing lots of research and educating myself so I can truly understand what the client is trying to say.

In this case, Standard Chartered wanted to explain the Base Rate, what influences it and the benefits of having a lower Base rate. Lower base rate meant that the bank was able to provide the cheapest loans. The video was to be around 60 seconds. The turnaround time was 4 weeks from start to finish.

Concept
How do you make it clear what Base Rate is? How do you demonstrate the effect of a low or high Base Rate? How to show what effects the base rate ?

Script
What is ‘Base Rate’?

‘Base Rate’ is a benchmark interest rate set by Nepal Rastra Bank and used as a reference rate for lending. The base rate influences interest rates on loans.

The components of base rate are cost of funds, cost of liquidity, operating cost and an assumed fixed rate of return on assets. Cost of deposit also influences base rate of banks – higher the cost, higher the base rate and vice versa.

Explore the benefits of low base rate and invest in your dream assets – a home, a vehicle or any other items that you have yearned to possess.

While opting to borrow, it is prudent to select a bank that has consistent and stable base rate and interest rate history.

Lower interest rates means lower EMIs, opportunity to save more and ease on your day to day cash flow.

Design
After working with the client on the overall treatment, we landed on using some simple visuals to explain the concept. Then we pulled some reference for a visual style that seemed appropriate.

Due to the tight schedule, most of the illustrations were done on After Effects itself with these images as the guide of the syle to be followed.

Execution
I was able to do some cool 3D transitions using C4D.

Well, this was a tight one to pull it off due to the time constraint. A week more could have made this much better. However, not all projects are time friendly nor super fun topics. Despite this had been a great learning opportunity for me and the team.
